So my birthday kinda crept up this year, as I've noted before, and I'm trying to work out what on earth to do. I can't really throw a party properly, as my apartment is too small and my roommate too stodgy. Clubbing has been a letdown lately, I don't have the pool anymore, and sixflags has a new coaster coming in April, so I don't want to go in March. A disturbing part of me really kind of wants to have a LAN party and play Civilization 4. Would there be any interest in this, provided there were still tasty cocktails? I know a lot of my friends are gamers. I know some aren't. The problem is, I don't know exactly where the line is. I also know this isn't exactly 'risque', and definitely falls outside of casey tradition. I had been turning over in my mind the possibility of a lingerie party, but I just don't have the space. We can have a lingerie lan....

In any case, if anyone wants to do this, say so, so I'll have an idea whether it's any good. If not, PLEASE feel free to post alternative suggestions. Just remember, I'm not looking for party themes, I need things people can go out and do, or things that by nature come with their own space so that it is not necessary to use my grumpy-roommate-filled 800 foot apartment.

kind of...it was a halfhearted attempt in that after about 3 reboots of trying to catch the bluish flicker that is my 'dell screen', I got frustrated and told the computer to go fuck itself.

For all I know, it did.

I intend to try again on a patient day, but those are so few and far between...

3/6... You don't know anybody with Sept. 12 as their bday, do you?

Anyway, Hm. It's too bad that Civ4 isn't hotseat-based play, or is it? 'Cause I don't want to move a computer and I don't own Civ4. I wouldn't *not go*, so bear that in mind (not that I'm a showstopper or anything *anyway*).

Things to do... Go karts, putt-putt, football, frisbee, parks, kites, camping, hiking, all kindof outdoor. Hmm... I'd almost offer my place if you just want space. It's the only way we get it cleaned up!

Civ 4 does have hotseat, but it sucks, and I think it has a maximum of 8 or so players, so we may well have enough computers just using/ transporting the ones already in the house. Also, there's nothing that prevents everyone using the same install and play disks. I don't want to count on being able to do anything outside, because early march is very unpredictable, but generally still quite chilly weather.

My father's is 9/11- is that close enough, or does he get the most depressing birthday ever for nothing?

For that, I'll give it to him.

It's march 6. A friend has a 21st birthday (which trumps) the weekend after, so I'll probably do something the weekend before, the 4th and 5th, which is next weekend.

I think I'm free that weekend, so lemme know what you plan. I'll show up, if only to drink all your alcohol. :}

I would be so down with Civ 4. The thought of a lingerie lan party fills my head with awful images of sweaty, hairy fat men nearly naked in their parents' basements, but thankfully I don't think that image could ever apply to one of your parties. I'm not going out of town to visit my grandparents like originally planned, so any weekend works for me.

As for options, I must say I'm a bit low on ideas that don't involve driving for several hours (mountains, beaches, etc.). You could always have some sort of camping trip, as that would provide you with plenty of space, but then you have to deal with camping equipment and the fact that you would be miles away from electronics and a decent shower.

Unfortunately, the cabin isn't an option, it's just too soon. And regular camping does not come with a heater. I would die. DIE. 24 is older, but it is still too young to die.

Are you aware that your phone appears to be dead? I only ever go straight to the answering machine.

Oh yeah. I keep forgetting to post this.

MY PHONE IS LOST.

It's been lost for a week, so it's long since out of batteries.

I'm working on it :)

email me Dia(at)mail2nowhere(dot)com
or call josh's phone...um...I probably shouldn't post that number on my LJ. he probably wouldn't appreciate it. Not sure what to do about that...

yeah, but unfortunately goth, gay, kinky, and/or too-hip-for-their-own-damn-good isn't really even close to the largest demographic among my friends, so a ton of people either wouldn't come or wouldn't have fun. I don't want to leave out that percentage of people who have colors in their closets :) It does address the space issue, though, so it stays on the list of possibilities.

Botanical garden in the afternoon, maybe?

how about the old familiar stand-by of the pub crawl? or even simpler, just picking one bar and cooling it? surely that's fun, yet mundane enough for all? or do you have lots of underage friends?

and oh, are you gonna work the ren fest again this year? you made such a lovely wing-seller last year

Unfortunately I think I will not be working the ren fest again, I'd like to, but I think if I try to live without weekends for 8 weeks again, I'll die. Additionally, one of the many phone numbers that was lost in the Great Phone Debacle of '06 was my ren fair boss Stan Carter's. I have no way to get in touch and either take or turn down the job, which vexes me greatly. For all I know he doesn't even need anyone this year, but I told him last year that I would call in February to let him know whether I'd be able to do it, and here I am with no way to keep that promise. I hate to be that person.
